Letter to the Transport Minister.
Dear Sir
In regards to the long-awaited bus system review, I am pleased to know that it is finally happening. Taking the bus and transferring to trains to reach my destination always has it’s attractive proposition. You get to people watch and you don’t have to worry about parking, cash card top-ups, not enough petrol and BMW cars that are not retrofitted with blinkers.
Implementation would be sometime away so I like to put in some suggestions. We might not be able to tackle the problem now but at least make full use of it.
THE WAITING GAME
No one likes to wait unless they are queuing at some famous hawker stalls or putting in their bets at Singapore Pools. So I suggest these two be somehow brought closer to bus interchange and if possible, but stops as well. It would make waiting more meaningful as you can:
1) Top up your tummy
2) Contribute $$ to the government to make bus systems more efficient.
CAN’T GET A CAB BUS
Apparently the feeder buses suffer a plight that our taxi not so long ago was facing as well. The buses will come but you just can’t get on it. Especially if your stop is closer to the end of the journey, good luck to you. Since the new price review of taxi managed to ease the problem, I suggest the same be applied to feeder buses. We can not only up the fare but put in incremental fares like the current midnight charges. Apply this to the morning peak, you will encourage to go to work earlier and pay lesser. So you might only need to pay say 80 cents if you go at 5am but pay $1.60 if you go at 7am.
CARS
Many cars owners like me must be really excited to play a major role in making the new system works and also enjoy the new system. I am so already planing how to sell my car away and use the proceeds to make a major top up to my ez link card.
Then it occur to me that I may not have much proceeds, even at all. I managed to get a car due to the relax ruling of zero (or minimal) downpayment coupled with a 10 year loan. Since I just got the car(damn), I might have to wait a few years before I could sell it away for the greater good.
In the meanwhile, I suggest taxi companies be given incentives to buy the cars from us and convert them into CNG taxis. They already have all different models now(including the Stream that I have), I’m quite sure they can take in Chery QQ taxi, BMW X5 taxi.
